The PGA Tour is sticking around in Hawaii for the second week and after his win in the Hyundai Tournament of Champions last week, Jonathan Byrd will be eagerly anticipating the start of the tournament.
At 25/1 to win the Sony Open, Byrd offers plenty of value and will be high in confidence after defeating a strong field in a play-off with Robert Garrigus.
Unsurprisingly – the Hawaii weather might have something to do with it – a strong field has assembled for the second week running and Steve Stricker heads the betting at 8/1 to win the Sony Open.
Stricker tied for fourth last week and he’s arguably the most consistent player on the PGA Tour which is why he deserves his favouritism.
However the pick of the leading contenders is Ernie Els who is 12/1 to win this week and has already registered a victory on the European Tour this season.
The Big Easy is one of nine previous winners of this tournament in the field this week, but none of the other eight can boast a win to their name this season and Els won this tournament in consecutive years in 2003 and 2004.
Tied for fourth alongside Els last week was Carl Pettersson and the Swede tied for fifth in this tournament last year and is a big price at 33/1 to emerge victorious this week and an even better 8/1 to finish in the top five with an each-way bet.
Matt Kuchar looks like he’s into his imperious form already this season and the man who had 12 top-10 finishes in 2010, has already registered his first top-10 finish last week and is 16/1 to win this week.
Justin Rose is the pick of the British contingent and is 25/1 to win this week.
A £25 stake on Els winning the Sony Open would return £325. New customers can sign up here for a free £25 bet.
