Henrik Stenson on Race to Dubai charge

Henrik Stenson has turned a corner as far as his form is concerned and will attack the forthcoming US events with a renewed confidence of topping the Race to Dubai list come the end of the year.

The Swede had an underwhelming start to the European Tour this year finishing outside the top 10 in each of his first eight outings.

However a T10 at the BMW International Open provided the 37-year-old with a confidence boost that has seen him go on to claim a T3 at the Scottish Open and second place at The Open in Muirfield last time out.

As such, Stenson, who has amassed €1,179,880 on Tour so far, has now come in to 14/1 to be top of the list going into the prestigious Dubai World Cup event and will be confident ahead of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and the US PGA Championship.

US Open winner Justin Rose is the 5/1 joint-favourite after ending the 43-year wait for an English winner pushed his annual winnings to €1,561,385, while fellow Brit Graeme McDowell, also priced at 5/1, has €1,545,988 to his name so far.

However,  the 2010 US Open winner has never finished inside the top 20 at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational – the next tournament on the calendar – meaning Stenson, who is very much a man in form – could steal a march on his rival.

Lee Westwood, despite trailing Stenson on €867,678, offers shorter odds of 12/1 to top the money standings but after playing himself into contention at Muirfield, the Englishman’s form deserted him on the last day meaning a first Major win still eludes him.

Westwood clearly has the talent to mix it with the world’s best, but the fact he has failed to get his hands on one of the big four titles suggests a psychological issue that could see him struggle to take the Race to Dubai crown from Rory McIlroy.

As such, those looking for the best value could be tempted by the longer odds on Stenson, who sits fourth in the overall standings with every chance of reeling in the leaders.
