2020 BMW Championship: Woods, McIlory and Morikawa to battle it out?

The BMW Championship welcomes some of the top players on the circuit to Illinois this week including Tiger Woods, top seed Dustin Johnson and the reigning PGA Champion Collin Morikawa.
We are in the dying embers of the FedEx Cup Playoffs but after this weekend only 30 players will remain to compete for the Tour Championship at East Lake.
And with such a competitive field on show, we’ve flicked through the field to look at some of the players who could be in with a shout.
The Favourites
Dustin Johnson is chalked up at 9/1 joint-favourite to win this weekend following his rise to the top of the FedEx standings.
But his previous victory at the Travelers’ Championship in July was followed by a dismal display at Memorial Tournament, but he’s back in form after victory in last week’s Northern Trust in Boston.
One of the missing pieces in Johnson’s career is a FedEx Cup crown, so can DJ triumph this time around?
Speaking of the Memorial Tournament, the eventual winner John Rahm is the 9/1 co-favourite this weekend. Rahm has been steady all year and will fancy his chances this weekend.
Defending Champion
Justin Thomas won this title in 2019 and is backed at 12/1 to defend his crown. Thomas is the current ranked third best player in the world, having already won three events and placed inside the top 10 in nine of his 16 tournaments.
The champ won’t give it up easily, so it will be interesting to see how the first-round group of Johnson, Thomas and Daniel Berger shape up.
McIlroy and Morikawa
You can never rule out Rory McIlroy of any event, just look at his storming run to the FedEx Cup victory in 2019. But at 18/1 he’ll have to rediscover his form pre-golf’s restart if he’s to leap ahead of the leading pack.
The world number four has been on the slide since, as he looks to rediscover his best form ahead of the US Open in September.
Collin Morikawa came from nowhere to claim the PGA Championship in early August and is at 20/1 to repeat that feat here. The 23-year-old is a dab hand off the tee and that could be crucial to who comes out on top.
What about Woods?
Tiger Woods has made three cuts this summer, but the 15-time major winner faces an uphill struggle to qualify.
He must make the top five to advance to the Tour Championship. He’s at 40/1 to win the whole thing this weekend, but it will be just as monumental if he can make it to the Atlanta finals.
