With Lewis Hamilton 1/100 to win this season’s Formula One World Championship, it’s a question of when rather than if the Briton lands the title.

The 32-year-old’s first chance comes this weekend at the American Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.

Hamilton holds a 59-point lead over Sebastian Vettel, with only four races and 100 points left to claim.

He needs to collect 16 points more than the Ferrari ace this weekend to win a fourth world title.

But as long as his German rival finishes fifth or higher this weekend, the Brit cannot become champion on Sunday.

Given his recent form – four wins and a second from the last five races – Hamilton looks set to do his part of the bargain, and is chalked up as 4/5 favourite to win this weekend.

The Englishman has a fantastic record at the Circuit of the Americas too. Since the venue entered the F1 calendar in 2012, he has won four of the five races held in Texas.

And the fast-flowing nature of the circuit should suit Hamilton’s Mercedes, as has been the trend this season.

Vettel goes into the race as a 2/1 shot for victory, but an unlikely 25/1 for the title.

His Ferrari has improved since the summer break, and the German should have won in Singapore and Malaysia.

But a startline crash of his own making in the former and a technical problem in the latter ruined his chances.

And after failing to finish in Japan last time out, Vettel is now all-but out of title contention. It seems likely though, that he will finish in the top five and force Hamilton’s title celebrations to be put on hold.

With Ferrari fluffing their lines in recent races, Red Bull have emerged as Mercedes’ main challenger.

Max Verstappen won in Malaysia, before chasing Hamilton hard to finish second in Japan.

The Dutch wonderkid is 14/1 to bag a second win of the campaign, with team-mate Daniel Ricciardo a 16/1 fancy.
