British Grand Prix betting tips and odds

One of the highlights of the sporting calendar takes place on Sunday when Silverstone hosts the British Grand Prix.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has won seven of the last eight editions, but season-long problems with his Mercedes mean he is 10/1 in the British Grand Prix odds to make it a ninth victory overall since his first in 2008.

Here, we take a look at some of the markets and odds to help with our British Grand Prix betting tips.

Max factor hard to ignore

World champion Max Verstappen stretched his lead to 46 points with his sixth victory of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix two weeks ago and the Dutchman is 19/20 to make it a seventh at the weekend.

The Red Bull driver had to fend off a late challenge from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz before taking the chequered flag, while Hamilton was on the podium for the first time since the opening race of the season in Bahrain.

The design of this year’s cars has led to some teams suffering from bouncing – known as porpoising – at high speeds, with Mercedes among the worst, but Hamilton was “ecstatic” at the end of the race in Montreal, especially after his troubles in Azerbaijan where he had to be helped out of the car.

Hamilton also needed acupuncture and cryotherapy just to make it to the grid in Canada where he posted the 184th podium of his career, but only the second of a difficult season.

Asked how his back was feeling after the race, Hamilton said: “It’s feeling good, I’m back to feeling young. It’s quite overwhelming to get this third place, it has been such a battle this year as a team – I’m so proud and inspired by my crew.

“They are a little bit too quick for us at the moment, I gave everything and we are getting closer and closer. I could just about see them at the end thanks to the safety car, our pace was quite good so honestly I’m ecstatic, I didn’t expect it coming into the weekend.”

Horner fears Mercedes threat

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said the “very strong” pace of the Mercedes around the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit could see the team be “a factor” at Silverstone, even though Hamilton reined in expectations for when he returns home.

“It has given me and the team a lot of hope that there is more to come from this car, that the potential is truly there if we can get the set-up right,” he said. “We’ve just got to keep our heads down and keep working…We will find a way eventually.”

Hamilton was fourth in Baku, so his team are improving and the Brit can be backed at 2/1 for another podium finish in Sunday’s British Grand Prix betting tips.

Mercedes team-mate George Russell continued his excellent form with a ninth successive top-five finish and is 1/3 to be inside the leading six drivers again, while a fourth podium of the season is 9/4.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has been exceptional in qualifying, having been on pole in six of the nine races and it will be interesting to see what his odds are for a seventh.

Sergio Perez, who suffered a gear-box failure in Canada, has set the fastest lap in two of the last four races and is 9/2 to do so again, although that accolade went to Sainz in Azerbaijan and the Spaniard is 8/1 to be the quickest around a single circuit.

Sainz has also finished ahead of Leclerc in four of the last five races and looks an interesting prospect at 2/1 to improve that record as the last of our British Grand Prix betting tips.
