The 2019-20 Formula E season is whizzing its way to Morocco this weekend for the Marrakesh E-Prix.
It’s round five of a season which has so far seen four different drivers win the opening four rounds.
Mitch Evans took the chequered flag last time out in Mexico, and the Australian’s victory vaulted him to the top of the standings.
Evans leads Britain’s Alexander Sims by a single point, with Sims some seven clear of Antonio Felix da Costa in third.
Latest Formula E odds
That victory for Evans in Mexico City emphasised his claims as a serious title challenger this season, and our traders now have the 25-year-old as 5/1 favourite to win this year’s title.
Sims and Da Costa are right in the mix at 11/2 and 6/1 respectively, while Sam Bird at 7/1 and former McLaren Formula One pilot Stoffel Vandoorne at 15/2 won’t yet give up hope either.
But anything goes in Formula E and the standings could change in the blink of an eye.
Last season’s champion Jean-Eric Vergne has endured a difficult title defence thus far, collecting only an eighth and a fourth place finish this term.
But the Frenchman isn’t the defending champ for nothing, and is 9/1 to overhaul his rivals with nine races still scheduled to take place.
The Morocco circuit is one of the longest on the calendar at 1.83 miles, and sends the drivers winding through the Agdal district of the city.
But with only 12 turns, it’s far less twisty and complex than others on this season’s schedule. That should offer us an exciting race this weekend.
Vergne took pole position in Marrakesh last season, but finished fifth as Jerome d’Ambrosio took the victory.
