World Cup Countdown: England 12/1 to win all three group games!

Published:

There are only a dozen days left until the World Cup kicks off in Brazil and the excitement is almost tangible, especially after England eased to victory over Peru in their final warm-up game on home soil.

Roy Hodgson’s charges waved goodbye to Wembley in fine style by running out 3-0 winners against the south Americans and although there is obvious room for improvement there were plenty of positives to draw upon for fans and punters alike.

Not least Daniel Sturridge’s 32-minute curler which lit up the national stadium and boded particularly well for the Liverpool man’s chances of top-scoring for England at the finals, which can be backed at 3/1 with Ladbrokes.

Adam Lallana showed exactly why the Premier League’s top clubs are currently clambering over one another for his signature, as his direct running style had Peruvian defenders backpedalling on more than one occasion.

Two assists from corners by Leighton Baines also highlighted just what a danger the Everton man’s dead-ball delivery can be to opposition defences in Brazil, while teenager Raheem Sterling was in typically terrorising mood when he hopped off the bench for the last 25 minutes.

Steven Gerrard was eager to point out afterwards that England were on course “to peak” at the finals, and if they can produce these kind of results in the run-in then the 12/1 on offer they go on to win all three games in Group D could just become a sizzler!

Ok, statisticians will annoying point out England haven’t achieved this feat since the 1982 edition, but David Beckham and co did come mightily close when they took seven points in Japan and South Korea back in 2002.

With so much fearless young talent at England’s disposal, this could just be the year we all get surprised.
