Where next for Aaron Ramsey? Man Utd and Spurs favourites

The Premier League transfer window is very much up and running, with clubs up and down the league trying to get in the best possible shape before next season arrives in a month’s time.

And one player who is sure to be heavily linked with a Premier League move is Aaron Ramsey.

The Welshman could be on the market, with new Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo reportedly looking to shake things up in Turin and move a few players on. Ramsey only joined the Old Lady last summer on a free from Arsenal, and despite often being utilised as a substitute, helped Juventus to win the Serie A title.

Ramsey still has three years to run on his contract in Northern Italy. But rumours persist that the clever midfielder may make a Premier League return, and we’ve lined up the most likely potential suitors…

Manchester United – 2/1

As is tradition nowadays, Manchester United are linked with most players every summer. But there may be more to this than meets the eye.

Prior to joining Arsenal in 2008, Ramsey was also offered a deal by the Old Trafford outfit, but chose the Gunners instead.

But after a difficult few years, United have shown signs of late that they’re going in the right direction with plenty of potential in Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood up front.

But would Ramsey be willing to join a side which already boasts Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes? On paper the trio could form a mighty force, but Ramsey may not want to be play second fiddle once again.

Tottenham Hotspur – 9/2

Would Ramsey really join the other half of North London after being such a fan favourite at the Emirates? Our traders certainly think a move to Tottenham could be on, with Spurs 9/2 second favourites.

They may struggle to match Ramsey’s current wages in Turin, but he’d certainly see much more game time.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has plenty of midfield options, including Dele Alli, Erik Lamela, Giovanni Lo Celso, Steven Bergwijn and Gedson Fernandes, but signing Ramsey would give them another angle in the middle of the park, particularly since Christian Eriksen left to join Inter Milan.

Arsenal – 5/1

What about a return to the Gunners? The vast majority of fans would likely be in favour of welcoming Ramsey home.

But Arsenal are hamstrung when it comes to funds. They’re still to tie Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down to a new contract, while Mesut Ozil’s future remains up in the air.

And in Ramsey’s absence there have been shoots of promise at the Emirates, with Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson stepping up this season.

Plus, as much as the fans may wish to see him in red and white again, it would be difficult for the Arsenal board to justify paying big money for a player just 12 months after letting him leave for free.

Everton – 11/2

Ramsey began his career in blue with Cardiff City, so could he be in Everton blue next season?

In acquiring Carlo Ancelotti as manager, the Goodison Park outfit have made it clear that they intend to step things up in the next couple of years.

To do that though, they’ll need to stop making expensive signings which don’t work out. Gylfi Sigurdsson, Alex Iwobi and Moise Kean have yet to shine on Merseyside, while fans are still trying to forget the Davy Klaassen saga.

Whether they could afford Ramsey and his wages remains to be seen, but it’s likely the Welshman would quickly become one of the first names on Ancelotti’s team-sheet on Merseyside and bring much-needed Premier League pedigree to their midfield.

Liverpool – 6/1

Could Ramsey jump from the champions of Italy to the champions of England? It’s not hard to see the Welshman slotting in to Liverpool’s midfield three under Jurgen Klopp.

But the Reds have such an array of midfielders already in Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum and Fabinho.

And having just enjoyed one of the most dominant title wins in English football history, Klopp is unlikely to make any additions this summer without a proper plan in place.
