West Ham join the race to sign Danny Drinkwater

West Ham United are ready to pounce for out-of-favour Chelsea man Danny Drinkwater.

The Hammers are now 2/1 favourites to bring the former Premier League winner to London Stadium.

New boss Manuel Pellegrini has added some Brazilian flair and French toughness to his ranks. But for a fan base that has been thirsty for success for years now, Drinkwater could be the icing on the cake.

The East London club’s attacking dynamic is a mix of skill and brute force but partnering Drinkwater with fellow new recruit Jack Wilshere in midfield could be an inspired one.

Drinkwater was a bit-part player under Antonio Conte last season, only making 12 appearances.

It looks like Sarri is looking to do his business in Serie A which would mean no place for the 28-year-old.

The former Leicester City man is more than just a water carrier. And if he can re-discover the form of 2015/16 then the likes of Felipe Anderson and Marko Arnautovic could profit.

Drinkwater was famed for playing the sweeping – often first time – through balls to Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy that brushed the league aside.

There are reports that Pellegrini is ready to let either Pedro Obiang or Cheikhou Kouyate leave the club.

Leicester are also one of the other clubs that are primed to enter the bidding. However, if Drinkwater elects to stay in London then West Ham are now one of the most appealing options.

They’re also looking to ship out Jordan Hugill and sign another forward. Pellegrini’s business this summer has been clinical as they look to fire themselves towards European football.
