USA v Jamaica betting tips and odds

Tournament hosts USA clash with Jamaica in a repeat of the 2017 Gold Cup final although this time a place in the last four is at stake in Texas.

Then, a goal from Jordan Morris a minute from time gave the United States a sixth title and they start Monday’s quarter-final as 8/15 favourites having won all three group games.

A clash with either 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar or El Salvador awaits, so let’s examine the markets and odds in our USA v Jamaica betting tips.

Match Odds

Gregg Berhalter’s youthful USA squad began the group stage with a laboured 1-0 victory against Haiti which they followed with a 6-1 rout of Martinique and they guaranteed top spot with a 1-0 success against arch rivals Canada thanks to a goal by Shaq Moore after just 20 seconds.

USA enjoyed a 4-1 victory over Jamaica in an international friendly in March, but Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is not in this Gold Cup squad and Juventus midfielder Weston McKinnie is also absent as he was four months ago.

United States beat Jamaica 3-1 at the 2019 Gold Cup and they are 5/2 to win and both teams to score or a victory containing three or four match goals is available at 6/4 and 17/5 respectively.

Jamaica made a steady start to the group stage with 2-0 and 2-1 victories over Suriname and Guadeloupe but missed out on top spot when the only goal of the game from Bryan Ruiz gave Costa Rica a 1-0 victory.

USA have won 11 of their last 12 games and kept clean sheets in their last four outings so we go 6/4 on a win to nil, but this mainly MLS-based side is not at its strongest and they conceded against Martinique so it would not be a surprise to see Jamaica get on the scoresheet as they have done in the last two meetings with Monday’s opponents.

With that in mind, USA to win or draw, both teams to score in the second half and over 2.5 goals in the match is available at 4/1 in the #GetAPrice odds.

Talking Tactics

Berhalter has mixed up his selections and formations throughout the tournament so it’s hard to assess which players will be in the starting XI although defender Walker Zimmerman has been ruled out through injury, so Revolution defender Henry Kessler and forward Cade Cowell have been added to the squad.

Several England-based players will be challenging for a place in Jamaica’s starting XI like Watford forward Andre Gray, Fulham striker Bryan Decordova-Reid, Preston midfielder Daniel Johnson, Reading captain Liam Moore and former Bristol City defender Adrian Mariappa, whose contract expired at the end of the season.

Their star player, though, is Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Leon Bailey, who was rested for the Costa Rica game with both nations having already qualified.
