Euro 2024 qualifying: Ukraine v England betting tips and preview

England can go nine points clear at the top of their Euro 2024 qualifying group with victory against Ukraine this weekend.

The Three Lions have won all four games in Group C and are 9/2 co-favourites with France to win the tournament in Germany next summer.

Because of the ongoing war with Russia, Saturday’s match takes place in Poland as we examine some of the markets to help with our Ukraine v England betting tips.

Three Lions a roaring success

Bukayo Saka scored his first career hat-trick and Harry Kane bagged a double in a 7-0 victory over North Macedonia in June which cemented England’s place at the top of the group.

The Three Lions are the top scorers of all the nations hoping to qualify for the European Championship, with skipper Kane scoring five of their 15 goals.

England’s record goalscorer broke the deadlock in a 2-0 victory over Ukraine at Wembley having scored a double against the same opponents in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals, so he has a good record against this team, who overcame a 2-0 half-time deficit to beat North Macedonia 3-2 in Skopje which they followed with an uninspiring 1-0 win against Malta which was settled by a second-half penalty.

Head coach Gareth Southgate is without Manchester City winger Jack Grealish and Liverpool’s versatile right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, but still has a squad packed with quality, so it’s hardly surprising that England are 4/9 to make it five successive victories.

However, at bigger odds, we prefer Kane to score in a Three Lions win at 23/20 as the first of our Ukraine v England betting tips.

England strong in first half

Interestingly, England were leading at the break by at least two goals in all four wins, even in the 2-0 victory over Italy in their group opener, so this is a team that likes to burst out of the blocks.

The Euro 2020 runners-up and 2022 World Cup semi-finalists are 6/5 to be ahead at half-time and full-time as the next of our Ukraine v England betting tips, or they can be backed at 13/2 to be leading 2-0 after 45 minutes as they were when the teams met at Wembley in March.

For those looking at much bigger prices, England are 22/1 to be 3-0 up at the break as they were against Malta and North Macedonia.

Southgate may decide to give the likes of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah and Chelsea defender Levi Colwill their senior debuts at some point, but he will be keen to get the job done first and continue to keep it tight at the back having conceded just once in their four games.

Ukraine have not scored in their last three matches against England over the last 10 years and having failed to find the net from open play against Malta, their attack could be in for a lean time.

With that in mind, England to win either half, keep a clean sheet and +1.5 goals in the match at 2/1 as a #GetAPrice option certainly catches the eye – a market that would have paid out in the last two meetings between these nations – although a win to nil at 5/4 also looks a plausible outcome at slightly lower odds.

In the correct score market, the Three Lions are 11/2 to repeat their 2-0 win from almost six months ago when Saka netted the second goal.

The Arsenal man was this week voted England men’s player of the year for the second successive time and that will have given him a confidence boost ahead of the game.

At 23/10, we’re on board Saka to get on the scoresheet as the last of our Ukraine v England predictions, while a 3-0 or 4-0 win at 8/1 or 16/1 respectively should not be ruled out.
