Scottish League Cup betting tips and preview

Rangers and Celtic were kept apart in the Scottish Cup quarter-final draw and they are in action on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Gers are 1/5 favourites to win Wednesday’s clash with Livingston who caused an upset by beating Celtic at the weekend which left Ange Postecoglou’s side in sixth place after half a dozen games.

We have Scottish League Cup betting tips from all four matches and start with the game at Ibrox.

Rangers v Livingston (Wed, 7.45pm)

Rangers dropped points at home for the first time in 18 months at the weekend when they drew 1-1 with Motherwell after which Steven Gerrard said “that was a straightforward home win for me and we should be three points clear at the top”.

The Light Blues defeated Livi 3-0 on the opening weekend of the season and are 3/4 to beat them to nil for a fifth meeting in a row or 11/2 for a third successive victory by that scoreline against Wednesday’s opponents.

That said, last season’s Scottish League Cup runners-up hauled themselves off the foot of the table with a 1-0 victory over Celtic on Sunday, but they are 14/1 for what would be a massive upset or 9/2 for a draw.

Dundee v St Johnstone (Wed, 7.45pm)

Defending champions St Johnstone have the chance to reach the semi-finals for the second successive season as they travel to Dundee as 13/10 favourites.

Stevie May’s 20-yard strike earned Saints their first win of the season in a 1-0 victory at Aberdeen on Sunday and they are 11/2 to win by that scoreline as they did against Dee in last season’s Scottish Cup.

Indeed, St Johnstone have beaten Dundee without conceding in their last five meetings and a sixth is priced at 13/5 bearing in mind the hosts lost 1-0 to local rivals Dundee United on Saturday, their third successive match in which they had failed to score.

Celtic v Raith (Thu, 7.45pm)

Celtic have the chance to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat at Almondvale by defeating Scottish Championship side Raith as 1/12 favourites.

The Hoops have been awful on the road under Postecoglou, but have won their three home games in the Premiership by an aggregate of 15-0 and are 4/6 to win to nil or 33/20 to overcome a three-goal handicap as one of our Scottish League Cup betting tips.

Raith drew 0-0 with Livingston to finish top of their group and beat Aberdeen 2-1 in the second round so a goal may not be beyond them. Rovers are 9/5 to score exactly once at Celtic Park.

Dundee United v Hibernian (Thu, 7.45pm)

The Terrors won the first top-flight Dundee derby 1-0 in five years at the weekend but they have a much tougher task on their hands as they host Hibernian in Thursday’s quarter-final.

Hibs remain unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership after Saturday’s 3-2 victory over St Mirren temporarily propelled them to the top of the table and they are 5/4 to reach the semi-finals for a third successive year.

Martin Boyle has bagged nine goals in all competitions this season and if selected is 21/10 to score any time as he did in last season’s 2-0 win at Tannadice as one of our Scottish League Cup betting tips.

The Edinburgh side also won their Scottish Cup semi-final by that scoreline and are 9/1 for another 2-0 victory.
