Rafa Benitez favourite to be next Newcastle manager

The Premier League could be set for the sensational return of Rafael Benitez. The Spaniard is the odds-on favourite to replace Steve Bruce as Newcastle United manager at St James’ Park.

As the proposed sale of the club by Mike Ashley to Saudi-backed PCP Capital Partners edges closer, talk of investment and a new direction intensifies.

Our traders have priced up the most likely names to replace the seemingly exit-bound Steve Bruce, and as things stand it’s Benitez who is 4/5 favourite.

Benitez was a popular figure on Tyneside during his three-year spell in charge of the club before he left to manage Dalian Yifang in the Chinese Super League. Could a Toon return be on the cards?

Elsewhere, Max Allegri is 3/1 for the job, with Mauricio Pochettino a 4/1 shot and every other name currently being 20/1 or bigger in the betting.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Rafa is all-but set for a shock Newcastle return if the latest odds are anything to go by, following Newcastle’s takeover.”
