Qatar v USA betting tips and odds

USA take on 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar for the first time in the early hours of Friday morning with a place in the Gold Cup final at stake.

Gregg Berhalter’s young side defeated Jamaica 1-0 with a late goal from Matthew Hoppe in the quarter-finals and are 4/5 favourites to set up a potential clash with CONCACAF rivals Mexico in the championship match.

The first of Friday’s semi-finals takes place at the Q2 Stadium in Austin as we examine the markets and odds in our Qatar v USA betting tips.

Match Odds

The hosts may be the favourites to reach the final but Qatar should not be dismissed at 3/1 having beaten El Salvador 3-2 to stretch their unbeaten run to 11 games.

The Asian champions topped their group with seven points and took a three-goal lead in their clash with El Salvador only to concede twice inside four minutes just before the final quarter to set up a nervy finish.

Goals have played a major part in Qatar’s Gold Cup campaign with an average of 4.25 per game so we go 21/20 and 13/5 on over 2.5 and 3.5 respectively.

USA, 13/8 favourites to win the Gold Cup behind Mexico, finished top of Group B with a perfect three wins, although they squeezed past Haiti and Canada 1-0 – the latter with a goal after just 20 seconds.

The six-time champions have now won three of their four matches by a 1-0 scoreline and are 5/1 for a repeat in the Qatar v USA betting tips.

Qatar are the top scorers in the competition, though, and Almoez Ali’s double against El Salvador sent him to the top of the goalscoring charts with four.

Felix Sanchez’s men are 15/2 to win and both teams to score and 45/1 to bag a 3-2 victory with goals expected in Texas.

The invited guests have taken the lead in all four matches and are 17/10 to break the deadlock or 27/10 to do so in the first half as they have done in three of their matches.

With that in mind, USA are 10/1 to win from behind and 3/1 to win and both teams to score.

Talking Tactics

This MLS-centric side went with a 4-3-3 system against Jamaica during which Daryl Dike, Hoppe and Paul Arriola started in attack but Berhalter went with five at the back for the victory against Canada when Gyasi Zardes accompanied Dike up front.

The Qataris played the same 5-3-2 formation in the quarter-final with El Salvador, with Ali and Akram Afif in attack.

Goalscorer Odds

Ali is 6/1 to get the game’s first goal and 5/2 to score any time while strike partner Afif is 9/1 and 7/2 in the same markets.

However, Dike, who bagged a double in a 6-1 victory against minnows Martinique, is the 7/2 favourite to break the deadlock and 8/5 to get on the scoresheet.

Shaq Moore, who slotted home that first-minute goal against Canada, is 11/2 and 12/5 in the two markets while Zardes is 4/1 and 9/5.
