Qatar v El Salvador betting tips and odds

The CONCACAF Gold Cup in the United States has reached the business end of the tournament and the first of this week’s quarter-finals takes place in Arizona with a clash between El Salvador and debutants Qatar, the 2022 World Cup hosts.

Qatar’s preparations for next year have been going well, topping Group D with seven points from their three games and they are 4/5 to reach the semi-finals inside 90 minutes.

The winner will face either the United States or Jamaica in the last four so let’s look at some of the markets and odds in our Qatar v El Salvador betting tips.

Match Odds

Qatar’s first ever Gold Cup match against Panama was an exciting one in which they led three times but had to settle for a 3-3 draw.

The 2019 Asian Cup winners then scored three first-half goals en route to a 4-0 win against Grenada and wrapped up the group phase with a dominant 2-0 victory over Honduras in Houston where they had 13 shots on target but only secured the points in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Qatar also beat El Salvador 1-0 in a friendly in Croatia less than three weeks ago despite the 20th-minute dismissal of midfielder Abdulaziz Hatem who scored in the wins against Grenada and Honduras.

The Qataris drew with Republic of Ireland in March, a few days after beating Luxembourg and Azerbaijan, and are now unbeaten in 10 games so their form has been excellent.

Three of their last four matches have been won without conceding, so Qatar can be backed to win to nil at 31/20, while they are 6/5 to do so with under 3.5 goals.

Seven of Qatar’s last nine matches have produced three or fewer goals and they have only conceded more than once in one of their games during their unbeaten run.

Their opponents El Salvador enjoyed 2-0 victories against Guatemala and Trinidad & Tobago in their first two group games but finished runners-up after a 1-0 defeat against Gold Cup favourites Mexico.

Last month they qualified for the third round of qualifying for the World Cup so their confidence is high and they can be backed at 2/1 to draw or 7/2 to reach the last four, something they last achieved 36 years ago.

Although they struggled in the friendly against Qatar despite their numerical advantage, both teams to score is priced at 5/4.

Talking Tactics

Qatar played a 5-3-2 in their win against El Salvador with Almoez Ali and Akram Afif up front and they are likely to lead the line having scored in both of the first two group games.

El Salvador went with a 4-1-4-1 in that game, but have played a different system in all three matches, latterly a 4-3-3 in the defeat by Mexico.
