Why aren’t Southampton being linked with a move for Wilshere?

Published:

It’s clear that Jack Wilshere will be moving on from the Emirates for at least a season in an attempt to get game time at a vital point in his career, and a whole host of clubs have been linked with the England midfielder – so why have Southampton kept quiet?

Wenger is reportedly keen on Wilshere staying in the Premier League so as to closely monitor his every move – but the French boss doesn’t want a title rival snapping up the 24-year-old creative midfielder – leaving the door wide open for clubs such as Crystal Palace and Bournemouth to enquire about Wilshere’s services.

But if Wilshere fancies a short-term stay in the south coast – surely an offer from Southampton would be too good to turn down.

Of the top-flight clubs linked with Wilshere, the Saints are the only side who can offer the England international European football – albeit in the Europa League.

But if Wenger wants the 24-year-old to enjoy a hectic campaign full of challenging fixtures, this has to be considered a genuine option.

Wilshere’s experience in the centre of the pitch may be just what new Saints boss Claude Puel is currently missing, and while he’s been quiet up to this point today, maybe that’s because he has at least one surprise up his sleeve.

Could that surprise be Wilshere? If you think he could be heading to St Mary’s before the deadline, we’re currently offering a huge 25/1.
