The Saido Berahino saga has taken a fresh twist with news that newly appointed West Brom boss Tony Pulis may be prepared to swap his hotshot striker for two fresh faces.

The features in question belong to Tottenham wingers Andros Townsend and Aaron Lennon.

Having had precious little time to assess his new squad, the one area of the pitch the Welshman appears very eager to overhaul is out wide where a lack of pace is his main concern.

Clearly speed is an attribute both Spurs players possess in abundance making the pairing perfect fits for Pulis’ plans as he strives at the very least to keep the Baggies up, priced at 2/5 currently.

Much like the dreaded house sale reliant on a chain of events to occur however, this deal could prove complex.

Tottenham certainly seem to be in the market to acquire Berahino’s services, but losing two players of similar profiles in one go may not be favoured by Mauricio Pochettino.

And even if the Spurs hierarchy are willing to sanction such a move, the potential wage cuts could become an issue for the players, even with a virtual guarantee to get more game time at the Hawthorns.

Rarely do swap deals ever come off in the pure sense of exchanging Panini cards in the playground though, some other fees (and which clubs should get them) could muddy the waters further.

That’s not to say the deal cannot be brokered, but a quick decision is unlikely to be reached.

Liverpool’s search for a striker and constant links to Berahino still can’t be ignored at this early stage in the January transfer window either.
