West Brom looking to bolster defence with French target

West Brom are hoping to make a Deadline Day swoop for Angers’ highly-rated defender Thomas Romain.

Tony Pulis has already welcomed Watford’s full-back Allan Nyom today, but it seems the Baggies boss is looking to more defensive cover.

Romain has been courted by Premier League clubs since December, having starred for newly-promoted Angiers last season in Ligue 1.

The 6ft 4in centre-half was a near ever-present for Les Scoistes last term, helping them finish a highly-commendable ninth place.

That top-half finish was built upon a defence which kept 17 clean sheets, and now it seems Thomas is to be rewarded with a move to England.

It’s not the jaw-dropping deal Baggies fans will be hoping for, but nevertheless it further strengthen a defence which has already kept two clean sheets this season.

Crystal Palace and Stoke have also kept tabs on the Landernau native over the past few months, but it seems only the Black Country side have maintained their interest.

The deal could also reignite interest in Jonny Evans, with Arsenal among the Premier League outfits touted as potential destinations for the Northern Irishman.

There’s a long way to go in this Deadline Day, and it seems West Brom are going to be in the thick of it.
