Watford target Newcastle United stopper as Pantilimon cover

Watford are reportedly looking to Newcastle United’s Tim Krul as a loan option.

While Heurelho Gomes is Walter Mazzarri’s chosen stopper this season, back-up goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon is set to be out for a month.

The 6ft 5in goalie was injured in the Emirates FA Cup defeat to Millwall at the weekend and Newcastle’s Krul has emerged as a potential stop-gap.

Krul has been on-loan at Ajax this season, but has yet to make an appearance for the Eredivisie giants.

And the Hornets can’t afford to be caught short in any area, given their current form.

Having failed to win their last seven Premier League games, the Hertfordshire outfit sit just eight points above the drop.

Krul could certainly still do a job in the top-tier, and at 28, it’s well within reason to argue he could succeed the 35-year-old Gomes at Vicarage Road should any deal become permanent.

Mazzarri’s men head to Arsenal tonight, but we make the visitors very much the outsiders at 12/1 for three points.
