Liverpool have received no shortage of criticism for their work in the transfer market, but had they managed to land Alexis Sanchez over the summer, it could have all been so different.
The Chilean instead opted for Arsenal, who the Reds play this weekend, and has made an incredible start to life in north London, scoring 14 times in all competitions this season.
Sanchez will be the main threat to Liverpool’s defence this weekend, and Ladbrokes have generously boosted his price to net the opening goal from 11/2 to 7/1.
Considering the former Barcelona man’s penchant for drawing first blood this term, that looks a very worthwhile punt indeed.
In five of his last eight Premier League games, Sanchez has been the first name on the scoresheet, including in away trips to both Swansea and Sunderland.
Since he bagged his first goal for Arsenal in the 1-0 win over Besiktas in late August, Sanchez has notched 14 times in 20 matches.
He is currently on his longest Gunners’ drought since that strike against the Turkish side, having failed to score in two games.
It is not like the 26-year-old has been slacking off in those two matches, as he’s set up three goals for his teammates.
Sanchez’s fine run in front of goal is a continuation of his final season at Barcelona, where he bagged 19 times in La Liga.
Those considering taking advantage of Ladbrokes’ price boost will be interested to know that seven of those strikes were the opener in matches, including his very last goal for the Blaugrana against Atletico Madrid.
Last season this match started in dramatic fashion as Liverpool thundered into a 4-0 lead by the 20 minute mark, eventually running out 5-1 winners over the Gunners.
The same scoreline is available at 175/1 this term, if you’re a particularly optimistic Reds fan, while the home win is priced at 9/5 and an Arsenal victory at 6/4.
