Transfer wishlist: QPR require something other than another Austin

Which areas do they need to strengthen?

Where to start? The Rangers defence has proven far from rock solid this season and fresh blood may be required while the Rs midfield options have not always looked up to scratch this term.

Much has been made of Harry Redknapp’s desire to recruit another striker this month but the reality is that another goalscorer is the least of their concerns at present.

With the artist formerly known as “Wheeler Dealer” at the helm, another busy month beckons at Loftus Road..

Who have they been linked with?

Jermain Defoe, Mohamed Salah, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, Yakubu Ayegbeni, Yann M’Vila, Ravel Morrison, Scott Sinclair, Cristian Rodriguez, Jordan Rhodes, Rudy Gestede, Andros Townsend, Danny Ings, Rolando, Kyle Naughton, Robbie Keane.

January Wishlist Best Buys

Mohamed Salah (Chelsea)

With money reportedly tight this month at Loftus Road, a series of loan deals may be required to see the Rs over the line in the Premier League and Salah could be the perfect way to start.

The Egyptian has looked desperately out-of-sorts at Stamford Bridge so far and unlikely to progress without significantly more game time in the Premier League.

A move to nearby QPR could therefore prove the ideal option, allowing the ex-Basel man to gain game time and confidence while also boosting Rangers’ survival chances in the process.

Yann M’Vila (Rubin Kazan)

The kind of high-quality midfield battler currently absent from the QPR ranks, M’Vila may currently be in the midst of a season-long loan at Inter Milan but with the Frenchman struggling to hold down a place at the San Siro, Redknapp could come calling.

QPR are believed to be keen on “taking over” the defensive midfielder’s loan deal with the Nerazzurri, thus allowing the club to recruit a world-class star for next to nothing besides wages.

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson (Ajax)

With Jermain Defoe’s arrival looking increasingly unlikely, QPR could continue their pursuit of Ajax’s highly-rated Iceland international, who has scored goals for fun in the Eredivisie so far and would relish the opportunity to move to the Premier League.

Though he’s likely to be a more expensive addition, the 24-year-old could prove to be a success on English shores, though it remains a move with plenty of risk attached.

We Recommend…

Joel Campbell (Arsenal)

Used sparingly throughout his time at the Emirates, Campbell would undoubtedly benefit from a loan move elsewhere and while the likes of Stoke are said to be keen on the Costa Rican, getting involved in a relegation battle could yet prove to be the making of the World Cup star.

Previously impressive in spells with Olympiacos, Real Betis and Lorient in Europe, if Arsene Wenger is keen for the forward to continue his football education, then a move to another Premier League side is a must.
