Tottenham back in the game after matching Everton’s Sissoko bid

Published:

It’s swung to and fro all Deadline Day long, but with less than an hour to go until the window slams shut, Tottenham have made a last-ditch bid to sign Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle.

Having previously balked at the Toon Army’s £30m asking price, Spurs risked losing out for the midfielder with Everton happy to stump up that fee.

However it’s believed the player would prefer a move to the capital, and now the White Hart Lane outfit have made an improved late offer, with Everton’s interest dwindling.

Reports have claimed Newcastle owner Mike Ashley would only consider an offer from Spurs if it matched Everton’s, and now that it does, it seems Sissoko will now need to make a decision before 11pm.

Spurs have been quiet this summer, welcoming just Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen before today but the arrival of Sissoko, in addition to Georges-Kevin Nkoudou would give fans a little more contentment.

It could be a massive blow for Everton however, who would have looked a formidable unit with Sissoko in Ronald Koeman’s ranks.

There’s still time – just – for things to change, and given how this story has played out today, we wouldn’t be surprised if it did.

Spurs have gone from 1/8 favourites to 8/1 outsiders and back again at 1/5 favouritism in this see-saw battle.

How will it end?
