Swansea’s need for firepower leads them to Foxes star’s door

Swansea look to be joining the deadline-day party by bidding £2.5m for Leicester City’s forward Jeffrey Schlupp, as Michael Laudrup vies to provide back-up to Wilfried Bony and the injured Michu in attack.

Although Schlupp is a talent, the move is sure to raise a few eyebrows in south Wales as the German-born, 22-year-old has only been on the fringes of the Championship leader’s team this season.

The vast majority of his 22 appearances this term have come courtesy of the bench, while his only goal of the campaign arrived against Millwall at the turn of the year.

However, Laudrup’s scouts have clearly seen enough of the versatile forward to table an offer, as Swansea bid to stay in the Premier League with things so tight in the concertinaed table.

Despite residing in 11th currently, the Welsh side are only five points clear of the relegation places ahead of their televised clash against West Ham where the away side are priced at 13/8 to prevail at Upton Park.

The need for strengthening has been accentuated by the lengthy layoff to the club’s top scorer of last season Michu.

Dutchman Bony has performed admirably in the Spaniard’s absence, racking up 16 strikes all-told for his new club, though the responsibility of scoring needs to be shared a little more fairly at the club.

Still only 21, Schlupp has plenty of potential, it just remains to be seen whether or not Laudrup is able to extract it, should the Leicester man move before the deadline.
