Slowly but surely the Premier League’s elite are limbering up for the new season with a succession of friendlies.
Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City have already got their warm-ups under way and are about to be joined by Tottenham, who are on tour in America.
Here’s what you can expect from the latest round of big-club friendlies:
Preston v Liverpool – the Reds’ post Suarez hurt continues.
Brendan Rodgers got his first season without the prolific Uruguayan biter underway with a loss to Brondby recently and should be confident of recording a first 2014/15 win against Preston on Saturday.
However, backing the League One unit to prevail against a Reds side that has predominantly used youth in their two friendlies so far makes complete sense at 17/4.
AFC Wimbledon v Chelsea – goals to rain down on the Dons
Unlike the Reds, Chelsea have had more senior players to call on so far in their one pre-season appearance, a 5-0 thumping of Wycombe.
With another relatively local trip to AFC Wimbledon up next and John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic in scoring form from their last outing, another heavy Blues win looks just around the corner.
Seattle Sounders v Tottenham – DeAndre Yedlin to become a Lilywhite
The 21-year-old right back impressed greatly for the USA when coming on as a substitute against Belgium in the World Cup and has since returned to MLS duty with Seattle.
Spurs’ need for defensive-flank reinforcement is well documented and their friendly with the Sounders, which they are 4/5 to win, provides them with the perfect opportunity to scout one of the World Cup’s under-the-radar gems.
