Sunderland and David Moyes are ready to get busy on Deadline Day, with reports linking the Black Cats in an £8m move for Valencia’s talented winger Rodrigo.

Rodrigo could be set to fill the void left by Jeremain Lens, who joined Fenerbache on a season-long loan earlier this week.

The 25-year-old scored seven times in 38 appearances for the Spanish side last term, and can play on either flank, through the middle or up front.

Rodrigo has been with Valencia for two seasons, after three years of impressive showings for Portuguese giants Benfica.

The Spanish international hit 45 goals in 119 appearances for Aguias and has experience in England having enjoyed a short loan spell with Bolton in the 2010-11 season.

Sunderland have taken one point from their opening three Premier League games this season, but arguably still lack the attacking quality required to escape another relegation battle.

Moyes has so far welcomed defenders Donald Love and Paddy McNair from Manchester United, plus old  friend Stephen Pienaar on a free transfer.

Adnan Janujaz has also joined on loan, but Rodrigo’s arrival would be a welcome addition of real European quality.

Sunderland will be hoping Rodrigo can prove the inspiration for their first three-point haul of the campaign, when they host Everton after the international break.

The Black Cats are 13/5 for a first win of the season, with Ronald Koeman’s Toffees 21/20.
