Tottenham’s January transfer business is likely to see players moving in both directions according to latest reports, with the club prepared to take a hit on one of their expensive midfield purchases.

Despite a being a regular fixture in Brazil’s midfield at the World Cup, Paulinho has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular under Mauricio Pochettino this season.

One of a number of high-profile signings bought in under Andre Villas-Boas’ reign during the summer of 2013, using the bumper Gareth Bale funds, the £17m man is clearly not favoured by the Argentine boss.

Having impressed at times on his way to eight Lilywhites goals last season, Pochettino has used Paulinho particularly sparingly this term, affording him just the seven Premier League appearances.

The central midfielder, whose on-pitch work ethic has always been questioned by Spurs fans, does not appear to fit into Pochettino’s high-pressing philosophy and with Brazilian club Cruzeiro circling it looks a move to suit all parties.

Meanwhile, another player unable to get a proper look in for the 4/1 top-four shots under the former Southampton gaffer is Aaron Lennon.
Tottenham’s longest-serving player is thought to have a £7m price tag on his head and Spurs will offload if any clubs stump up the cash this month.

These potential sales could well pave the way for a crack at signing wantaway West Brom striker Saido Berahino, who is supposedly available for £20m.

The Lilywhites face a potential scrap on their hands form top-four rivals Liverpool though, as the Anfield outfit look to strengthen their faltering front line.

Whether new Baggies boss Tony Pulis will sanction the sale of Berahino remains to be seen, but it could be a busy window at White Hart Lane.
