Spurs may lose out on ‘UK-bound’ Newcastle midfielder

There is always plenty of speculation to tantalise Tottenham fans on Deadline Day, although with notorious bargain driver Daniel Levy in charge of the purse strings, the latest twist in the Mousa Sissoko plot won’t shock Lilywhites.

No sooner had Sky Sports broken the news that Spurs were prepared to meet Newcastle’s hefty £30m asking price for the Frenchman, the transfer gurus got wind that the Londoners had cooled their interest.

All this despite the agreement in principle between the clubs supposedly allowing Tottenham to pay the Championship outfit in five instalments of £6m.

It smacks of classic Levy, perhaps sensing that the Lilywhites wouldn’t be extracting value out of the 27-year-old winger’s signature for the money involved.

Nevertheless, this deal is not necessarily dead in the water. Sisokko has left France’s training camp to head for the UK according to reports from Sky so more negotiations with Spurs, or a completely different Premier League destination can’t be rules out.

This looks like being one rumour that still has plenty of juice in the tank as the hourglass runs down on the summer transfer window .

Spurs are 12/1 to be the last club to sign a player on the Deadline Day.
