Cristiano Ronaldo sent the footballing rumour mill into a bit of a frenzy yesterday.
The Real Madrid ace has reportedly informed the La Liga giants that he no longer wants to play in Spain.
And naturally, a return to Manchester United was quickly touted.
Indeed, the striker is 7/4 to return to Old Trafford, having left in an £80m move in 2009.
But the Jose Mourinho is also closing in on the signing of Ronaldo’s Bernabeu team-mate Alvaro Morata.
Could the Ronaldo news have an impact on Morata?
Well, not according to our traders.
With the Spanish international now 1/12 to play under Jose Mourinho in the Premier League next term, it appears the deal won’t be side-tracked by any Ronaldo impact.
Indeed, it’s just 2/1 that United sign both Ronaldo and Morata this summer.
The only potential downside to this mega double coup, is that it may come at the expense of David de Gea.
Real Madrid’s admiration for the United stopper is well-known, and they may demand the 26-year-old in return for either of their forward outgoing forwards.
Our traders make it 1/6 that De Gea’s next club is Real Madrid.
But that’s not all. The news that AC Milan’s star goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma will not sign a new contract has thrown another spanner in the works.
The 18-year-old is widely expected to become the best goalkeeper in Europe for the next decade (or two), and could turn Real’s attention away from De Gea.
And the net result of that could be, that Man United end up with Ronaldo and Morata and hold on to De Gea.
Suddenly Man United look rather good at 10/3 to win next season’s Premier League…
