Swansea City’s desire to fill the gaping void left by top scorer Wilfried Bony has seen a few different names pop up in the rumour mill, the latest of which is Jordan Rhodes.

The Blackburn Rovers striker has long been courted by Premier League clubs, but as of yet none have followed through with enough conviction to fully test Rovers’ resolve.

However, the sequence of events at Swansea, who have been robbed of their most reliable source of goals, may just alter the map.

Rhodes is still only 24, though it feels like he’s been around for eons after bursting onto the scene at Huddersfield in League One, where he scored 23 goals during the 2009/10 season.

Since his emergence as a red-hot goal scorer, Rhodes has continued to find the net with impressive regularity for Blackburn in the Championship, plundering 62 goals in 122 appearances for the Lancashire club in three-and-a-half seasons.

Unfortunately for the Swans, who first showed an interest in signing the Scotland international back in 2013, there are quite a few hoops to jump through in order for any deal to be pulled off.

Having signed a contract extension at Ewood Park which theoretically keeps Rhodes tied up until 2019, Rovers will surely demand a hefty fee.

Running in parallel to finding an agreeable price, there is also considerable Premier League interest in Rhodes’ teammate and fellow striker Rudy Gestede at present.

If the likes of Crystal Palace can persuade the Championship side to sell Gestede, then keeping Rhodes will inevitably become far more pressing.

Ironically enough, Garry Monk will get a close-up scouting report on Rhodes next, as he takes the Welsh club to Ewood Park in the FA Cup fifth round where the Swans are 13/10 to win the match.
