With the Premier League season rapidly approaching it’s halfway stage, the battle for this season’s Golden Boot award is showing a clear four-way fight.
That’s according to the latest top goalscorer odds, which show four players at 5/1 or shorter.
The big mover, however, is last season’s Golden Boot winner Mo Salah. The Liverpool star fired in a hat-trick against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Here’s how his treble has affected the betting among the favourites…
Tottenham Hotspur’s talismanic striker is on nine goals this season. Harry Kane is just one behind Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang, but is 12/5 favourite to win the award in May.
Kane has scored at least 21 league goals in each of the last four seasons, and has already won the award twice before.
And given the lack of striking rivals for a starting spot at Spurs, Kane should be on course for another 20+ campaign.
After a steady opening few months to the season, Salah looked back to his old self in Liverpool’s 4-0 demolition of Bournemouth.
The Egyptian was lively throughout, and helped himself to his second Liverpool hat-trick.
It took his tally to 10 goals for the campaign, and Salah’s odds have subsequently been chopped from 5/1 to 11/4 to successfully defend his title.
Man City’s Argentine dynamo was favourite in the betting for much of the early part of the season, but recent injuries have seen him slip back.
Aguero is currently on eight for the season, but with reports suggesting he could miss much of the Christmas period, the striker could fall even further behind in the next few weeks. Previously 11/4 favourite, Aguero can now be backed at 4s.
He doesn’t always start for Arsenal, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is making the most of his opportunities.
The Gabon striker is already on 10 goals for his first full season in an Arsenal shirt. Despite sharing the top of the standings with Salah, Aubameyang’s odds have held sway, coming in slightly from 6/1 to 5/1.
After a blistering start to the season, Eden Hazard has gone off the boil a touch. Chelsea are still winning games, but the Belgian’s goals have dried up.
And that’s seen his odds drift too. Currently on seven Premier League goals, Hazard hasn’t netted a league strike in any of his last seven games. Previously an 8/1 shot, the forward is now out at 18/1.
