Pochettino turning Spurs into Saints with Man Utd midfielder

Published:

Mauricio Pochettino has already been reunited with one of his former Southampton midfielders at Tottenham this summer. And as the clock ticks down on Deadline Day the Argentine looks set to join up with another.

Manchester United’s Morgan Schneiderlin is emerging as a late transfer target for Spurs, having only featured in five minutes of Premier League action under Jose Mourinho so far this term.

The Frenchman was a regular in central midfield at Southampton both during and after Pochettino’s reign on the south coast. Ever since the pair parted ways, rumours of a reconciliation have been rife.

Should the 26-year-old exchange Old Trafford for White Hart Lane, Schneiderlin would also be paired with Victor Wanyama once again. The Kenyan signed for Spurs earlier this summer in a £12m deal from St Mary’s.

Whether Wanyama and Schneiderlin would reprise their first-team partnership from the south coast in north London is debatable.

Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele were the top dogs in the centre-circle last season, but with deputies Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb both departing recently, Pochettino may feel he needs more than just Wanyama as a back-up plan.

Schneiderlin made 29 league appearances for United in his debut campaign last season, but has been pushed further down the Red Devils pecking order by the arrival of Paul Pogba and surprising play of Marouane Fellaini.
