Former Real Madrid manager Manuel Pellegrini has emerged as the latest contender to take over from Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea.
According to Pellegrini’s agent, Jesus Martinez, the current Malaga manager has rejected an approach from Chelsea but the Chilean has entered the next Chelsea manager betting at 12/1.
“It is normal for clubs without a coach, such as Chelsea through intermediaries, to inquire about Pellegrini,” said Martinez.
“But he is very comfortable at Malaga and has a contract there. He has put a lot of effort into Malaga and is pleased and excited to work with the team.”
When in charge of Real Madrid, Pellegrini led Los Merengues to a record points tally in La Liga but was knocked out of the Copa del Rey by a lower league side and Lyon ended Real’s Champions League hopes.
It was Pellegrini’s poor performance in the cup competitions that contributed to the Chilean lasting just a season at Real Madrid, and with Abramovich looking for someone to guide Chelsea to a Champions League trophy, Pellegrini doesn’t look the strongest of candidates.
Guus Hiddink remains Abramovich’s favoured choice and is a 2/1 chance to take the job, and after moaning to the press yesterday about his lack of time dealing with players on a one-to-one basis, it seems Hiddink’s mind may be changing.
The Dutchman hasn’t taken charge of a club side in 10 years and throughout that spell has been committed to his word of staying away from club management.
Maybe Abramovich’s constant badgering has had its desired affect and Hiddink will certainly be a popular choice among the Chelsea fans.
The next Chelsea manager odds are constantly changing and in this volatile market there is plenty of profit to be found as punters constantly monitor the next Chelsea manager betting.
