When David Beckham chipped Wimbledon goalkeeper Neil Sullivan from the half-way line at Selhurst Park on the opening day of the 1996/97 season, it was one of those ‘where were you when…’ footballing moments.

The goal transformed Beckham into a household name and sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory for Manchester United.

Alan Hansen boldly predicted after a youthful Manchester United side lost 3-1 at Aston Villa in the first game of the 1995/96 Premier League season that: “You’ll never win anything with kids!”

Nine months later, United clinched the title and then the FA Cup against Liverpool, Hansen’s former club. The soundbite remains a source of embarrassment for the Scot.
