Newcastle United are closing in on the appointment of Remi Garde as their new permanent manager, according to the latest odds from Ladbrokes.
The bookmaker has slashed the price on the former Lyon man landing the Magpies role with the Frenchman now 8/13 to be named manager of the club in the next few days.
Garde was previously out at 16/1 to be appointed to the role but with previous front-runners like Fabricio Coloccini and Steve Bruce both ruling themselves out, the former Arsenal player emerged as a serious contender for the job.
The 48-year-old’s prospects have been further enhanced by the news that Garde has already held talks with Newcastle regarding the role and could be open to the move, provided he is allowed to bring his own coaching staff with him to the club.
Tim Sherwood is his nearest challenger in the betting with the former Tottenham gaffer a 4/1 prospect to be appointed the next permanent manager of Newcastle.
John Carver, meanwhile, is 6/1 after Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea made it two defeats from two for the current caretaker boss with Derby County manager Steve McClaren still available at 8/1 with the bookmaker despite previously dismissing any suggestion he could move into the role.
Former Stuttgart manager Bruno Labbadia has also emerged as a surprise outsider to be appointed to the Newcastle post with the experienced Bundesliga manager also 8/1 with Ladbrokes.
Hull boss Bruce has now moved out to 33/1 and the Tigers boss could yet rue the day he ruled himself out of the running with the Yorkshire club currently enduring a rotten run of form that has seen them lose three of their last four in all competitions.
In fact, the ex-Sunderland gaffer is now the new favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave their post with Ladbrokes offering 7/2 on a premature Bruce departure from the KC Stadium.
