He’s already spent over £100m this summer, but Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is still seeking a defensive midfielder.
The Red Devils boss has been linked with moves for Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier, but neither have yet arrived at Old Trafford.
Indeed it’s becoming far more likely that Mourinho will miss out on both targets.
And according to the latest reports, the Special One is now moving on to Anderlecht star Leander Dendoncker.
The 22-year-old impressed for the Belgian giants last term, as they landed the Jupiler League title.
Dendoncker was an ever-present for the Purple and Whites, not missing a single minute of domestic and European action.
He helped Anderlecht reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where he came to Man United’s attention by scoring against the Premier League outfit in the opening leg of their last-eight clash.
The Red Devils aren’t alone in courting the Belgian international however, with AC Milan and RB Leipzig both reportedly keen.
And Anderlecht aren’t going to go quietly either, with the league champions demanding at least £34m for their midfield anchor.
That could prove a sticking point, with Mourinho recently expressing concerns over today’s inflated market.
And that might allow AC to sneak in. With new owners, the Serie A outfit have been happy to splash the cash this summer, and we make them 9/4 favourites to add Dendoncker to their roster too.
United are second in the betting at 7/2, with Leipzig the outsiders at 5/1.
It’s unlikely that the German side will make a move for Dendoncker until they choose to sell Naby Keita, who has been heavily linked with Liverpool.
