Sam Allardyce could be out for revenge this January with the West Ham United manager reportedly planning to scupper Newcastle’s mid-season transfer plans with a bid for Magpies target Michael Krohn-Dehli.

The 31-year-old winger, who is a Denmark international, has been the subject of much speculation in the past few days amid reports linking both the Toon and Irons with a move for the midfielder.

Currently on the books at Spanish side Celta Vigo, the Scandinavian star is now in the last six months of his deal with the club and can negotiate with other teams ahead of a potential free transfer away from La Liga in the summer.

Celta Vigo may opt to cash-in on the Dane, however, provided a satisfactory bid is forthcoming this January from one of the teams thought to be interested in the player.

Newcastle have been in desperate need of reinforcements for much of the campaign following an injury-hit couple of months for the St James’ Park club.

West Ham, meanwhile, may have one eye on an unlikely assault on the Premier League’s top four with the London club riding high in the league following an excellent start.

Allardyce will be hoping that the Hammers superior league position, coupled with the fact that they are based in London, will be enough to convince the likes of Krohn-Dehli to sign on the dotted line.

Newcastle’s chances may ultimately rest on who is appointed permanent manager of the north east club.

Previously with Ajax and later Brondby, Krohn-Dehli moved to Spain after impressing for Denmark at Euro 2012, where he scored the Scandinavians winning goal in a shock 1-0 success over pre-tournament favourites Holland in the group phase of the competition.
