Newcastle get busy with offers as transfer window draws to close

The transfer window has awoken a sleeping giant as Newcastle United prepare for a late raid on the best players in Europe.

Having signed Inter full-back Davide Santon yesterday, many Newcastle fans thought their club’s activity in the transfer window had come to an end – certainly the transfer rumours this morning would suggest so.

However, as the clock turns to 8pm, the Newcastle board are getting involved in the transfer window and Fulham fans will not be please to hear Newcastle have matched their offer for FC Twente’s Bryan Ruiz.

In addition to that it is believed Newcastle are willing to offer Ruiz a better financial package and they may just take the signing of the talented forward from right under Fulham’s nose.

In addition to the late move for Bryan Ruiz Newcastle have made an offer for Birmingham defender Liam Ridgewell.

Both Ruiz and Ridgewell would enhance a Newcastle squad that has lost Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton and Jose Enrique in this transfer window, and the signings would certainly bring some cheer to Tyneside.

Newcastle are some putners dark horses for relegation and they remain a big price at 6/1 to drop down a division at the end of the season, but two exciting signings this late in the transfer window would see the mood lifted around St James’ Park.

Fulham and Newcastle will be in a battle for Ruiz until the transfer deadline closes at 11pm, and the winner of that battle will have a definite advantage in the Premier League this season.
