David Moyes is the favourite to become the next Newcastle manager, as time seemingly runs out for under-fire boss Steve McClaren after another poor performance at the weekend.
The Magpies’ 3-1 loss at home to Bournemouth was the latest result to rile the Toon Army, and leaves Newcastle firmly in the relegation zone.
Speculation increased further after Saturday’s defeat over the future of McClaren, and Moyes is just 11/8 to become the next man in charge at St James’ Park.
And after handing them a bit of a pasting on Match of the Day this weekend, it’s 33/1 that Alan Shearer takes charge of his old club for the second time.
A Ladbrokes spokesman said: “The defeat to Bournemouth is looking more and more like the final straw for Steve McClaren, and David Moyes is waiting in the wings to take on the Newcastle challenge.”
With Aston Villa all but cognised to Championship football next season, it’s a three-way fight between Norwich, Sunderland and Newcastle to avoid the drop.
Odds of 4/9 suggest the two-time Premier League runners-up are ill-equipped to deal with the challenge successfully however.
Whoever is in charge of Newcastle, they’re next in action on Monday night when they face the somewhat tricky task of heading to Leicester.
The Magpies are 19/4 to hand defeat to Jamie Vardy and co, but the bigger question will surround who is leading the team out come Monday evening?
