Jose Mourinho has landed in London this morning on a social visit but both the boards of Chelsea and Manchester City will be desperately seeking a meeting as the Special One continues to express concerns about his future as Real Madrid manager.
Two weeks ago Mourinho and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez sat down and talked about Mourinho’s concerns surrounding the protection he’s receiving from the Real Madrid board, and while Perez gave Mourinho his backing, Mourinho has never settled in the Spanish capital.
The Spanish paper AS this morning have reportedly linked Mourinho with a move to either Chelsea, Manchester City or Inter Milan, but with Inter still on for the trouble after an incredible turnaround from Leonardo, the Premier League seems his most likely destination.
The rumour mill has been sent into overdrive this morning after Mourinho touched down in London and the Special One’s fondness for the capital means a return to Chelsea is on most people’s lips.
Despite Carlo Ancelotti’s mixed season Chelsea are still on for a Premier League/Champions League double and are 25/1 to do so, except when quizzed on his Chelsea future this weekend Ancelotti failed to deny any talk of an exit.
€20m would be the cost of taking Mourinho away from Real Madrid – a sum that Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour could cover easily – and with Roberto Mancini feeling the pressure Manchester City are certainly in the running for Mourinho’s signature.
Should Mourinho fail to win anything with Real Madrid this season – they are 5/1 to win La Liga, 11/8 to win the Copa del Rey and 4/1 to win the Champions League – then Perez can use it as the excuse to get rid of a man he hasn’t seen eye-to-eye with this season.
However a Champions League trophy could be enough to see Mourinho leave Real Madrid with his head held high.
