Middlesbrough shock contenders to re-sign Danny Graham

Middlesbrough have emerged as shock contenders to win the race to sign Danny Graham from Swansea.

A product of Boro’s acclaimed academy, Graham was released by the Teessiders in 2007 but could now be making his way back to the Riverside in a £5m move.

Tony Mowbray has been relatively inactive throughout January, with Kieron Dyer his only acquisition thus far, but he could be about to pull off one of the biggest coups of the entire transfer window.

Graham is keen to return to his native north east and, as a Newcastle fan, doesn’t appear overly keen on making the switch to Sunderland where he would not only have the fans to win over, but would probably find himself having to play second fiddle to the club’s leading goal-getter Steven Fletcher, as he does at Swansea.

Despite suffering a blip in form, Boro remain just three points off the Championship’s automatic promotion places and a striker of Graham’s calibre is exactly what they need for a successful end to the season. Nobody plays better football in the division than Mowbray’s men, but a lack of consistency when it comes to putting the ball in the net is what’s holding them back.

Should they seal the Graham deal, he could make his second Boro bow against Ipswich this weekend, where they’re priced at 6/4 to win.
