After Real Madrid finally confirmed the signing of Gareth Bale, it appears the Spanish club are now willing to recoup some of that fortune by selling Mesut Ozil to Arsenal.

Reports coming out of the Emirates indicate Arsenal are on the verge of signing Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil and Ladbrokes are now offering 2/1 that the Gunners complete the deal.

Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer of the German international, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Paris St-Germain in recent days, though it’s Arsenal who’ve been prepared to stump up the cash.

With the initial fee between the clubs settled on, the only real stumbling blocks could be a failure to agree personal terms and a last-minute swoop from another big club.

As well as Ozil, speculation is rife that the Londoners could also snare one of his Bernabeu team-mates, with Angel Di Maria as short as 7/4 to move to Arsenal before the deadline, while the 8/1 on Karim Benzema switching from the Spanish giants is the shortest price on a move to any Premier League club.

Since failing to land Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez with earlier moves, Wenger has been keen to get in another top class striker before the window closes and Benzema would fit the bill perfectly.

Injuries to two left-sided players Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have also increased the urgency on a new wide man and someone of Di Maria’s quality would be a round peg in a round hole for Wenger.
