Meet the men Mourinho should reshape Chelsea’s forward line with

If Chelsea wanted to keep their pursuit of a new striker this coming summer a secret, someone at the club mistakenly held their blabbermouth manager Jose Mourinho for a confidant.

The Special One added more ingredients to the Blues’ striking broth after his side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to relegation-battling Crystal Palace, which leaves the Blues’ title bid in tatters at 9/2.

Hinting that more than one of his current bumbling front men could depart the club at the end of the season, Demba Ba, Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku seem up for grabs this summer.

That leaves Mourinho needing at least two new faces as options to lead his line and we’ve kindly found some options for him:

Karim Benzema

The list of elite candidates Mourinho could use as his next Didier Drogba are plentiful. Radamel Falcao and Diego Costa are regularly mooted, but Benzema would be the ideal candidate.

The pair worked together at Real Madrid, producing the Frenchman’s highest seasonal league tally to date and, having never been truly loved at the Bernabeu, Benzema would surely be open to a reunion.

Alexandre Lacazette

At 22 years of age, the Lyon hit man would fit into Chelsea’s recent policy to bring young talent to the club.

Having struck 14 times from 29 Ligue 1 appearances, Lacazette would be the perfect option to understudy Benzema and Eto’o, with his versatility – he’s played all across the front line this term – a valuable commodity too.

Patrick Bamford

Depending on how much their outlay on an elite goal getter is, Chelsea may not wish to fork out on a youngster to play third fiddle.

In that case, and with Lukaku clearly unfancied, 20-year-old Bamford is their man. In spells on loan at MK Dons and Derby this term, Bamford has struck 24 goals in 45 appearances and would jump at the chance to make fleeting first team appearances at Stamford Bridge.
