We’ve wondered for years just who will come in and replace Arsene Wenger when he eventually steps down from his post at Arsenal. But we’re now a step closer to finding that out as one man has thrown his name into the mix, and it’ll be music to Gooners’ ears.
And at 16/1, he offers great value in the Next Arsenal Manager market.
Despite being in charge of one of the biggest clubs in world football, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly keen on a move to England – in particular, north London.
The former AC Milan coach is currently chasing his third and Juve’s sixth successive Serie A title, and it’s thought the man who took the Italian giants to the Champions League final back in 2015 is looking for a new challenge.
It’s rumoured that Allegri doesn’t feel he gets the credit he deserves at Juventus, leading his agent to begin talks with other clubs – and Arsenal are his first choice.
It could be perfect timing for the Gunners too, with many expecting this to be Wenger’s last season in charge.
And while Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has been a long-time favourite to replace the Frenchman, he’ll now face stiff competition from Allegri for the soon-to-be vacant role at the Emirates.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone has also been linked with the club, but it’s widely expected that he’ll move to Italy to take charge of Inter Milan.
Many fans would have been sceptical of Simeone’s appointment, though. While his CV makes for excellent reading, some Gooners feel that the club would lose its identity should the Argentine be appointed.
But that wouldn’t be the case with Allegri, who’s known for his attacking football in Italy. In fact, his Juve side have scored a staggering 183 league goals since the 49-year-old took over in July 2014.
To put that into some context, the Gunners are eight off that figure over the same period of time, so it’s unlikely the ‘Arsenal way’ would be tampered with too much, should Allegri take over the reins.
So what do fans think to this news? Is Allegri the right man to take Arsenal forward, or is there a better fit out there who the Gunners should approach?
