Dimitar Berbatov is 8/11 to not be a Manchester United player next season following his Champions League final snub.
Berbatov, the Premier League’s top goalscorer this season, was not even amongst the subsititutes for Manchester United’s 3-1 loss to Barcelona last Saturday, and it seems the Bulgarian has played his final game for the Red Devils.
Sir Alex Ferguson had every justification in not picking his star Premier League performer considering the Bulgarian hasn’t scored in Europe for over two years, but Berbatov is undoubtedly one of Ferguson’s best players and was unfortunate not to be given a chance.
The Bulgarian is 1/1 to be a Manchester United player next season and Berbatov confirmed he wanted to stay at the club in the aftermath of lifting the Premier League trophy at Old Trafford.
But the Champions League snub has left Berbatov’s future in doubt and even team-mate Nani is unsure whether the Bulgarian will be around next year.
“He has scored a lot of goals, and I would like him to play for Manchester again next season,” Nani said.
“I don’t know which players will be coming in, but most important is that the ones who stay fight for us.”
For someone who finished the Premier League season as the top goalscorer, there will be a number of clubs clamouring for the Bulgarian’s signature.
Sir Alex Ferguson has signaled his intention to sign three players this summer and if that doesn’t include a striker, then it’s hard to see the Manchester United manager letting Berbatov leave.
Berbatov will want to know his role in the team but there aren’t many players who take on Ferguson and get their own way, and the 8/11 looks great value for Berbatov to leave.
