Manchester United pipped local rivals Manchester City to the signature of Paul Pogba last summer, and it looks like they could edge the Blues in another transfer race, with the Red Devils 2/1 favourites to snap up Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguayan striker has netted 103 times in 169 games for Paris Saint-Germain, since joining the French giants from Napoli in 2013, lifting three Ligue 1 titles in succession.
However, it’s been this season where the 29-year-old looks to truly have reached his career peak, with an astonishing 22 goals in 21 games already, including four in the 6-0 victory at Caen in September.
There’s no doubt he’d improve any squad in world football, but it’s United who look most likely to add him to their armoury – with 2/1 for the Salto native to reunite with his former PSG teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Next up are Man City, with 4/1 on offer for Cavani to join up with the club who knocked PSG out of the Champions League last season.
Hot on their heels in the betting are Arsenal and Chelsea (both 5s), while a return to former employers Napoli is a 10/1 shot and Spanish giants Barcelona round out the betting at 12/1.
A Ladbrokes Spokesperson said: “Mourinho could get one over on Guardiola in the transfer stakes, with the Man United gaffer closing in on another world-class striker.”
