Man City v Man United: Hosts to win despite Rooney goal

Published:

While Chelsea and QPR contend the west London derby this weekend there is no doubting that the action in Manchester takes top billing on derby weekend.

City host United at the Etihad on Sunday and despite going three games without a win it is the Citizens that go into the game as 10/11 favourites.

United, unbeaten in four games, can be backed to bag bragging rights at 14/5, while a share of the spoils is priced also at 14/5, but there are plenty of better bets to be had.

Here Ladbrokes News’ James Curtis sifts through the hundred of markets to bring you three of the best.

Wayne Rooney to score first @ 8/1 (or anytime @ 5/2)

No one has ever scored more Manchester derby goals than the current Red Devils captain, who has 11 to his name so far.

That overhead kick stands out as the most memorable, but Rooney has never struggled for goals against the Sky Blues, netting five in his last six starts against United’s local rivals.

Having missed three games through suspension Rooney is well rested and chomping at the bit to add to his impressive total.

Four or more goals @ 27/20

While Rooney’s record is impressive he’s not the only one bothering the score sheet. In fact the most recent meetings have produced a ridiculous number of goals.

A total of 34 goals have been scored in the last eight meetings, with five of those matches producing more than four strikes.

City to win and both teams to score @ 9/4

With Rooney always likely to net against City and Angel Di Maria and Robin van Persie approaching top form it looks highly likely that United will find the back of the net.

However, despite the supposed woes at City, the Sky Blues have lost just four of their last 71 games at the Etihad and will be desperate to halt their current slide against their bitter rivals.

All things considered, this could just be the bet of the day!
