Sunderland look set to suffer more transfer deadline day misery, with key target Fabio Borini closing in on a move to Queens Park Rangers.
The Black Cats have already missed out on a deal for Micah Richards, after the Manchester City defender opted to move to Serie A with Fiorentina on loan.
Borini, meanwhile, looks set to link up with Harry Redknapp at Loftus Road with Rangers continuing to enjoy a busy day in the transfer market.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro is among those closing in on a move to QPR while Olympique Marseille winger Andre Ayew could also be heading to the London club in the coming hours.
A striker remains something of a priority for Redknapp, following the departure of Loic Remy to Chelsea in deal worth £10.5m.
Borini previously thrived on loan at Sunderland last term, helping the Black Cats escape relegation and even finding the net for the Wearsiders in the final of the Capital One Cup.
The Italian had been expected to return to the Stadium of Light on a permanent basis, but that move looks to be off after the former Chelsea academy star opted to return to London with QPR.
Signed by Liverpool for €13.3m back in July 2012, Borini struggled to make an impact at Anfield with injuries and a loss of form curtailing his influence on first-team affairs.
Loaned to Sunderland last season, the Italian scored 10 goals in 40 games for the Wearsiders.
Now set to move to QPR in a deal worth £10m, the 23-year-old has been the subject of ire among many Sunderland fans, who feel the forward has kept the club hanging on, waiting for a better offer to arrive.
Whether QPR represents a step up remains to be seen at the end of the current campaign.
