Liverpool 1/3 favourites for £50m-rated Southampton star Van Dijk

He’s locked in a four-way tug-of-war, but Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk is seemingly destined for Liverpool, according to the latest odds.

The Reds must fight off Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City for his services, while Manchester United haven’t been ruled out.

But we make Liverpool 1/3 favourites to land the highly-rated defender, who could land the Saints £50m this summer.

It’s believed the 6ft 4in centre-half is keen on playing for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, and it has been reported that the German will build his defensive unit around the Dutch international.

The Anfield club are also set to persuade the 25-year-old with a £200,000-per-week salary.

Chelsea are next in the betting at 4/1, where Blues boss Antonio Conte is out to find replacements for John Terry and Gary Cahill.

Man City follow at 7/1. Pep Guardiola spent £50m on John Stones last summer, but Nicolas Otamandi remains something of a liability at the Etihad.

Arsenal aren’t considered major players by our traders at 12/1, but several reports in the press claim the Gunners are actually Liverpool’s most eager rivals for Van Dijk’s signature.

Arsene Wenger’s side are even behind Manchester United in the betting, with the Red Devils at 9/1.

But Jose Mourinho would likely need to offload at least one of Chris Smalling and/or Phil Jones before making a major defensive signing.
