Leicester plotting £50m Sporting Lisbon Deadline Day double deal

Leicester City are hoping to land both Islam Slimani and Adrien Silva before tonight’s summer transfer window slams shut.

The Sporting Lisbon duo have been courted by numerous teams throughout the summer, but now it seems the Premier League champions will win the race.

Striker Slimani is believed to have agreed a deal worth £30m, while his midfield skipper Silva could move for £21m.

Claudio Ranieri has already broken the club’s transfer record this year, bringing in Ahmed Musa from CSKA Moscow for £16m.

But a lukewarm start to the defence of their title, looks to have forced the Italian into signing a couple more additions.

With a Champions League campaign set to test the club’s depth this year too, the decision to expand their options looks a savvy one from the east Midlands outfit.

Slimani fired in a whopping 27 goals in the Primeira Liga last term, helping Sporting finish second, while Silva has made over 160 appearances for the club, and helped Portugal win Euro 2016 in France this summer.

Silva’s potential arrival in particular could really help the club this term, allowing Ranieri plenty of options between him, Danny Drinkwater and Nampalys Mendy.

And it would be a similar situation up front, with the Italian handed the luxury of choosing between Slimani, Musa and last season’s star Jamie Vardy.

Many thought the Foxes had concluded their business weeks ago, but it seems the reigning champions are ready to spend a little more yet.
