Everton could be set to miss out on landing Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson, with the latest reports claiming Leicester City are very interested in the Iceland ace.
Sigurdsson shone for the Welsh side last term, producing nine goals and 13 assists to help keep the Swans in the top-flight.
But the 27-year-old has been regularly tipped up for a move higher up the Premier League.
In fact we suspended betting on the Iceland international joining Everton just over a fortnight ago.
It had appeared that a £25m deal was agreed, but the Toffees couldn’t agree personal terms.
And that might just have opened the door for the Foxes.
The Premier League winners are set to lose Riyad Mahrez this summer, who has informed the club of his wish to leave.
And Sigurdsson appears the most accessible like-for-like replacement.
It’s believed the Foxes are willing to offer £30m, knowing full well they will gain all that back – if not more – when Mahrez leaves.
It all means that Leicester are now just 2/1 to land Sigurdsson this summer, in from 8/1 a few weeks ago.
Everton remain favourites at 4/7, but remember, our traders – along with everyone – thought that deal was done last month.
The two clubs are the only realistic contenders, according to the odds.
Tottenham Hotspur are third in the running to re-sign the Swansea star, but they’re far behind the favourites at 12s.
A move to newly-promoted Newcastle United is 20/1, as are West Ham United, who are looking for someone to fill their Dimitri Payet void.
